Was informed by MamaFiza a few Mondays ago that her boy L was unwell since the weekend. Not much of a concern as kids are more subsecptible to ills and cuts. But then her next few lines of message on MSN did send a worry to the rest of the girls - one of little L's classmate was diagnosed positive for H1N1. Eeks and double eeks. MamaFiza mentioned that he was complaining of headache for a few days and showing flu symptoms. Really worrying but am happy to say that he is all better now from normal cold and flu virus.
That however got me thinking, how does a 5 year old know about headaches? Did he actually experience such symptoms?...As I don't recall ever suffering from that when I was that young (Ya, I know - payback time now with my migraine). Is it possible that litlle L was just imitating his mom who suffers from vertigo?
Why I am saying the above was that I remember frequently suffering from acute stomachache back when I was 9 yo. So much so that my parents had send me to the specialist/padeatrician (can't remember which one exactly) in SJMC. Going to a specialist maybe a norm now, but back then most aches and ills can be easily cured by a visit to the GP. The doctors in SJMC told my parents that they couldn't find anything wrong with me physically but that does not mean that my pain was not real. It remained a mystery why I was suffering from those tummyache. What I do remember is that my mom had horrible period pains as she had a cyst (which was subsequently removed many years later when it got too big). And she had to lie down for hours and days cos of it.
So was my tummy pain a case of the kid imitating the parent? Go figure. I do suppose that there are some scientific studies on this, am just too lazy to google it out now :p
